I know I've drifted off-topic (rather, out of the region) in the past few posts, so I thought I should put things back on course by offering something we can all relate to.
Although in Turkish, this article is treasure. The gist is, that according to Google's own research, Turkey ranks Number One among nations where the term "porn" was input into the search engine. This is a second global title for Turkey, which ranked first in 2006, but then fell to third in 2007. A strong competitor, Turkey has been in the top three for each of the past five years.
I am really glad this news broke, because it inspired me to dig this nugget out of the TDN archives. According to one condom company's rigorously researched internet survey, Turks are the most promiscuous of peoples, with "a whooping average of 14 sexual partners in a lifetime".
I'm really not sure what to make of a place, that claims both the globe's highest research interest in pornography and the highest number of sexual partners in a lifetime. Of course, one Turk does have an opinion:
"Turkish people are known as good sexual partners and we believe having 14 partners in a lifetime is in line with reality."
What I love, is that this was published in Foreign Policy magazine. I'll be sure to renew my subscription, so as to keep up with other highly dubious claims about global affairs.
